a. High risk children (familial history of tumors, congenital cataract, metabolic and genetic diseases and premature children, need to undergo a complete ocular examination before discharge of the clinic.

b. At 6 months all children need a complete ocular examination (to be carried out by the general physician or the pediatrician) in order to detect eventual fixation problems, strabismus and visible extreme deformities.

c. At age 3-4 all children need an ocular examination, to be carried out by the general physician; the pediatrician or the ophthalmologist, in order to test the visual acuity, eye- position and ocular motility.

d. During the schoolperiod yearly or every two years, the visual acuity of the children has to be tested.
