Useful information
1. Glaucoma can never be cured completely, as e.g. appendicitis or a broken leg, but it can be kept under control. Regular checking is necessary through for the rest of your life.
2. Never stop the treatment when the bottle happens to be empty before the next examination. Ask a new recipe in time or go to fetch new eye-drops or tablets at the pharmacist's.
3. Stick carefully to the prescribed quantity of medicine, to the due moment of application and to the regularity of control. Don't forget to take your medicine with you wherever you go. Also during a stay in hospital it is necessary to proceed with the glaucoma treatment.
4. Don't use an abnormal quantity of liquid, certainly not within a short period of time (e.g. 5 cups of coffee within one hour) because it may cause the eye-pressure to rise.
Tobacco and an exaggerated use of alcohol increase the risk factor because they are harmful to the vascular and blood system in general and to the optic nerve in particular.
It goes without saying that further questions concerning glaucoma can be answered and treated during the examination. |
