Causes of cataract?

We still do not know all the causes of cataract, but the most frequent one is the aging process.
A change in the normal protein structure of the lens causes cataract: 95% of all cataracts appears in persons over 60 and the mean age of our cataract patients is 74.

Other possible causes are:
1. General affections like diabetes, kidney-diseases and endocrinological affections
2. Certain eye diseases such as glaucoma and active inflammation of the cornea
3. The intake of some medicines during a long period, e.g. cortisone
4. Heredity
5. Traumas, such as a blow on the eye or an exposure to damaging radiation
