What is cataract?

The lens of the human eye functions like the lens of a camera.
It is located behind the iris and its function is to focus the incoming rays of light on the retina. From the retina the images are transmitted to the brain, like electric impulses, via the optic nerve. When the lens becomes opaque, the light does not penetrate until the retina and the sight becomes unclear. This opaque condition of the lens is called cataract.
